After borrowing a carriage from Gaiszer, Ataru and Caro camped out on the way and arrived at the mountain before noon the next day.

“Now, I wonder what happened to the other parties.”

Ataru and Caro had come to the mountain in no hurry, but they had heard that the other competing parties had headed for the mountain before Ataru and Caro.
Ataru looked around but didn't see any other party that seemed to be in the area, so he thought that they might have already gone inside.

Without hurrying, they drove the carriage to the cave where they could find golems and found a man leaning against the wall next to the entrance of the cave.

When Ataru noticed this, he got out of the carriage and ran towards it a little quicker.
Caro also sped up the carriage a bit and followed him.

“Hey, man.
You, okay?”

When Ataru called out to him, tapping him lightly on the shoulder, he slowly opened his eyes and squeezed out a reply.

“Oh, so you're the one who was going to take the job in the first place…….
I'm so sorry, it's our leaders messing with you that got us into this mess…….”

The man who looked so apologetic with a painfully twisted expression seemed to be injured, and blood was flowing from his forehead.
The man was bleeding from his forehead, and while his consciousness was foggy from the blood loss, he was apologizing to Ataru.
Perhaps he was being pushed around on a regular basis by the man who was called the leader.[1]

“Don't worry about it, I'm an adventurer who wants to take any good request…….
For now, if I don't, I'm going to die, or something…….”

After finishing his apology to Ataru, he closed his eyes again.
His breathing was becoming more ragged than at first, and it was doubtful that he could hear Ataru's voice in this state.

“……If so, this”

Aiming at the limp man, Ataru raises his gun and immediately fires a healing bullet.
The sound of gunfire echoed around the area, and a soft light enveloped the man.

“……? I thought I was dead.”

By the time the light subsided, the man's injuries had healed, and his ragged breathing had calmed down.
The man, who had been prepared to die like this, was surprised to find his body free of pain no matter where he touched.

“I'm glad you're better.
So, I'd like to ask you about the situation, can you talk to me?”

“You healed me…….
Thank you!”

Ataru looked at the man with an indifferent expression, struck by the joy of being healed and the confusion of why he had recovered.
The only reason he had treated the man was because he wanted information.

But for the man, he was his salvation, so words of gratitude came out of his mouth as he was overcome with emotion.

“'Well, you don't have to worry about this.
It would be more helpful if you could tell me what happened to the other guys, or what happened inside.”

The man Ataru seemed to be humbled by nodded at Ataru's words with two replies.

“Of course, ……
we are the party led by the guy who, as I mentioned earlier, started complaining when you took the job.
When we got the order, we went straight to this cave.
We got here at night, but we entered the cave in the middle of the night to get ahead of the rest of the party.”

Unlike outdoors, it was dark in the cave even in the daytime, so the leader insisted that it didn't matter if it was night or not.
Perhaps remembering that time, the man's expression had an annoyed look on it.

“It's, well, what can I say, ……
quite forceful.”

“That's right.
That's what our party leader used to be like.
That's how it usually worked out for us.
……”

The man became somber when he said that much.
There were many times when he was troubled by the aggressive leader, but thanks to the part that was working well, he still didn't get sick of it.

“So, you're the only one left, then?”

The man nodded with a dark expression as his shoulders slumped in response to Ataru's question.

“Our party got killed, and so did the other party that followed us.
Honestly, I'm not even sure how I managed to escape this far.”

Ataru and Caro were surprised to see that the entire party was almost completely wiped out.
The man must have been able to survive thanks to his all-out efforts to run away selfishly.

“How did it get to that point? They were all powerful people in their own right, weren't they?”

“Oh, I don't think this would have happened under normal circumstances, but the number of golems was unusually high.
If there were only one per party, we could have fought them without any problem, but this time it was clearly more than that.
I've heard of golems appearing in this cave before, but this many is a bit unusual.”

The man nodded and shook his head after shaking his body in fear, perhaps remembering the scene.

“I see.
I guess we'll find out when we get inside ……
if there's a cause or if it's just a freak occurrence.
Okay, Caro, let's go, we can leave the carriage here.”

After deciding that he had heard the information he wanted to hear, Ataru quickly connected the borrowed carriage to a nearby tree.
Caro also patted the horse with gratitude, and then checked her equipment again.

“Oh, you ……
heard what I just said, and you still want to go?”

The man was surprised at Ataru's decision to go inside so easily, even though he had heard his story.

“Yeah, now that I've accepted the request, I have to accomplish it.
We promised the father and son of that magic tool maker, so we can't say ……
that it was impossible because there were too many golems.”

Ataru nodded his head indifferently.
Caro, who was next to him, also nodded broadly with a smile.
It included Ataru's determination as an adventurer and his optimism that he would be able to manage.

“Ataru-sama will be fine! I'll be there.”

She nodded her head vigorously and showed her thin arms making muscle bumps.
Her breasts swayed in response to the movement.[2]

“Yeah, I'm counting on you.”

When Ataru put his hand on her head, he was not joking, he meant it.

“Well, then, as a thank you for healing me, I'll stay to guard the carriage.
Of course, I won't let anyone touch it.”

The man looked at them and felt that they might be able to do it.
So, he decided to do what he could to show his gratitude and offered to guard the horses and carriage* for them.[3]

“Oh, I'm sorry about that.
That carriage is on loan, so if you could keep an eye on it for me, that would be great.
……
Well, we're off.”

The man waved off Ataru, who waved, and Caro, who bowed, as they walked into the cave.

“Please come back safely.
……”

The murmur of the man who had been watching them from near the horses until he could no longer see their backs was a very earnest wish.

“I'm pretty sure the golems are in the back, aren't they?”

“Yes, ……, that's what they wrote.”

As they talked, they rubbed their eyes in disbelief, reviewing the scene in front of them over and over again.

“Then these guys are …….”

“Golems, yes.”

As the word “these guys” implies, there were three golems in front of them.
They had been standing still, but in response to their voices, they turned their gazes in a circle and looked at each other.

“Looks like they've noticed us.
Let's do this Caro!”

Ataru raised his gun, while Caro readied her shortsword and dagger.

In order to make the first move, Caro quickly ran out and headed for the golem, while behind her, Ataru was conscious of focusing his power on his eyes while holding his gun.
As the power gathered little by little, and his blue eye glowed with a faint light.

In the front, Caro moves around to attract the attention of the three golems.

Her movements were so swift that the slow golems with their large bodies could not catch her.
The golems were swinging their arms in the dark and swinging wildly without success.

Ataru, on the other hand, was concentrating more than usual, because if he wasted a bullet shooting poorly, it would draw attention to him.

Ataru's magical eye, glowing blue, was activated at once, prompted by his consciousness.

This eye has the power to see the flow of magic power.
That's why Ataru was able to see the magic channels* connected to the core.[4]

“……
not yet, not yet.”

But still, Ataru muttered and restrained himself as he timed his attack.
As long as he was dealing with three of them, he wanted to kill them all with one blow.

The next moment, Caro, who was struggling to keep up with Ataru, struck a golem hard in the arm.
As he stumbled, Ataru felt as if his vision had become clearer.

“I'm still here.”

At that moment, Ataru's eyes clearly saw the core and the magic channels coming out of it.

When the time was right, he pulled the trigger and fired a bullet, which hit the channel just where he wanted it to, and one of the golems stopped moving.

Ataru and Caro were convinced that this would ensure that the golem would be killed.

(Garden’s corner: just thought that couldn’t they just use the item bag for the cores? Just speculation but have great time with the rest of the chapter today(for you)!

[1] Could use some help with wording here.

[2] My MTL did a poor job with this line, so I combined TL’s from other MTL’s to get the best results.
Could really need some help here because of that.

[3] Added and carriage for some more consistency to the story/sentence.

[4] Will be using channels from here on.
