Ruan Qiuqiu noticed there was something wrong with Mr.
Gray Wolf after she had finished making a notch in the wooden stick to insert the sharp bone.

When she had stood up to get some of the tougher animal skins on the stone table to use as rope to tie the bone to the stick, her gaze followed the flickering light, and she noticed that Mr.
Gray Wolf’s face was unusually red.

Ruan Qiuqiu hastily put down the weapon and made her way to the stone bed.
She reached out her hand to check the temperature on his forehead.
It was very hot.
He had a fever.

Ruan Qiuqiu’s worries had come true.
She had been thinking that Mr.
Gray Wolf’s serious injuries might lead to inflammation or cause fever.
That’s why she had boiled the water as well as adding a droplet of healing water to the water she had used to clean his injuries.

Despite the precautions she had taken, he had still gotten a fever.

Ruan Qiuqiu moistened a piece of animal skin and put it on Mr.
Gray Wolf’s forehead.
Sitting on the side of the bed, she worriedly looked at his flushed face.

Mr.
Gray Wolf had accumulated more injuries because of that fiend’s unexpected attack, which meant that the usage of herbs had gone up.
Ruan Qiuqiu had tried her best to avoid waste, but there were only eight herbs to begin with.
And now, there were only three herbs left.

She couldn’t passively stay in the cave and wait for the blizzard to stop.
Once the severity of the snowstorm had decreased a bit, she had to go out to look for opportunities that would help them survive.

She had subconsciously relied on Mr.
Gray Wolf for safety.
She had thought if she stayed by his side, most primeval creatures wouldn’t dare to approach or provoke him.
She had thought that it would be safe by his side, so she could just wait it out.

However, knowing that Mr.
Gray Wolf had almost died in his fight with that fiend, she felt scared and regretful.
This world was more dangerous than she had thought.

In the novel, Mr.
Gray Wolf and her were doomed to die.
If she wanted to change their endings, she had to work harder.

As Ruan Qiuqiu was thinking about this, she noticed that the black spots on Mr.
Gray Wolf’s face, which had been under control before, looked as if they were coming back to life.
Those black spots were rapidly spreading across his face again.

Startled, Ruan Qiuqiu instinctively searched her dantian for spiritual energy to condense water, but her dantian was empty.
She had already emptied out her stored spiritual energy.

She hesitated for a moment before taking out the fiend core that Mr.
Gray Wolf had brought back.
She had been planning on not doing anything with this fiend core and returning it to Mr.
Gray Wolf when he woke up.

After all, a fiend core was a very valuable thing.
It was hundreds of times more valuable than salt and herbs.

Although the spiritual energy in this world was sufficient, there were strangely very few spiritual energy stone veins.

Under such conditions, demons in the world cultivated by relying on their talent and absorbing the spiritual energy in the air.
It was precisely because of this reason that there were very few demons that could break through to the fourth level and create demon cores and step onto the path of becoming demon kings.

Since there was a scarcity in spiritual energy stones, fiend cores were especially valuable.

There weren’t as many fiends as demons, but they had an easier time creating a fiend core compared to their demon counterparts.

Although fiends fed on humans and weaker demons, the fiend cores they created were especially pure and were treasures for humans and demons that wanted to advance in cultivation.

In the original novel, the male lead, Lu Ziran, had defeated a third level fiend during a beast tide attack in winter.
That fiend also had a wind ability like him.
Lu Ziran had dug out the fiend’s wind attribute core.
He broke through to level four and created his demon core by absorbing that fiend’s core.

Although Ruan Qiuqiu didn’t know how strong Mr.
Gray Wolf was, she guessed that he was most likely level 3 and about to break through to level 4 before he got seriously injured.

Although this level 2 fiend core didn’t have the same elemental attribute as Mr.
Gray Wolf, if she kept it for him and exchanged it for a fiend core of his type later on, he would be able to break through to the next level and make a demon core.

T/N: It was mentioned in chapter part 35 that Yuan Jue used to be a level 5 demon.
Ruan Qiuqiu’s knowledge is based on what she read in the novel, so although her inferences about Yuan Jue are reasonable based on what she knows, most of them are wrong.
